thank you for the interaction with the bagel orders from my last newsletter. here are some of my favorites:
“personally i like just a classic everything bagel + egg sandwich. however if i'm craving something sweet i prefer a blueberry bagel (plain or topped with maple syrup).”
“Bagel order is everything with scallion cream cheese on a regular day”
“i get a toasted everything bagel with salmon cream cheese or plain cream cheese.”
these are all right answers in my book. my personal order is a toasted everything with lox spread.
highlights
oct 1 - chinese students association fam picnic! one of my bigs made a bunch of spam musubi and kimbap and it was SO GOOD!!!!!
oct 2 - dining hall worker saw us waiting for the steamed pork buns and when they were done they CAME OVER TO OUR TABLE AND GAVE US TWO!!!!! literally so nice of them and i will love them forever for doing that. crazy how good people exist.
oct 3 - library fruit.
fall break:
a great time to catch up with friends! and also go to the city. most importantly, i got a bagel from my local bagel place!!!! i got everything with scallion cream cheese which i havent gotten before and then went home to put smoked salmon on it. it was quite delicious to say the least.
i also went to baekjeong for the first time since 2019.. it is in my opinion one of the best kbbq restaurants in nyc. i had to get the pork combo because my brother and i are pork lovers and then we also had some beef at one point too. overall a great meal
if you want to know more about what i ate over fall break you can check out 3 wich as i don’t want to bore you with the details.
parent’s weekend: my parents originally weren’t planning on coming but then i got sick so they came on sunday (as a semi-surprise). i am glad they came! we hung out for the day and then they left after dinner. i want to go home for thanksgiving so bad.
halloweekend
it was eventful to say the least. i dressed up as an emo clown/jester/mime by wearing one of my many striped shirts and doing some easy makeup. i also dressed up as a minion with my csa fam which was slightly funny.
overall…
october was rough. the beginning was fine but i feel like i progressively got worse. i got sick with a nasty cold that also affected my sinuses. i am facing some conflicts at school. i might have failed my info sci midterm. as i am writing this im feeling very anxious / stressed so i hope that goes away soon. i am hanging in there with 24 days until thanksgiving. which i really cant wait for.
things i’ve been into:
vance joy
nonsense by sabrina carpenter
the bear. idk why it took me so long to watch it but it was great acting. great performance.
gogo squeeze
sinus drainage massages (it works rlly well)
diary of a wimpy kid diper overlode
not to be that person who peaked in high school
but i do miss some aspects of high school. for example: driving. my teachers. harambee. hannah.
big red heads interactive exhibition!
i helped put these tents together for an interactive exhibition big red heads put on! the theme is ‘simulation’ and each tent had a different theme: space, womb, and clowntown. it was a lot of work for everyone involved but i am so happy with the end result and that we were able to pull this off! i didnt take enough pictures but here is one inside the womb tent (with my core memory). the activity for this one was that u can take a piece of paper and write your core memory and tape it to one of the vagina walls. for clowntown, there was like a mirror-like material on the walls in which you could draw yourself with an expo marker. for the space tent it was decorated with tin foil on the walls and the activity was to chew a piece of gum and add it to a ball as a collective disgusting masterpiece.
overall the exhibition went well, of course there is always room for improvement. stay tuned for next semester’s exhibition ….
idk how i feel
overall i just dont know how i am feeling. i don’t have an overwhelming sense of dread but i also don’t feel like i am passionate about anything. i don’t know what i’m interested in schoolwise. the thought of doing laundry is making me really mad.
also, i really noticed the importance of social interaction. even though i really value having time to myself, its also nice to be able to get dinner with someone or walk home together. or even talking briefly to someone in your class. i am actively trying to branch out and be more forward in my interactions because truly life is too short to worry about how you’re being perceived.
this brings me to the major lesson i feel like i learned this month which is how life is precious and there’s so many good things about life to look forward to in the future. college is difficult right now but in the grand scheme of things there are so many good moments yet to come so i hope that you aren’t dwelling too hard on having a rough time and trying your best to move forward.
also, i know some people might feel pressured to have a certain kind of college experience (going out) but it’s really not worth sacrificing your mental or physical health to do so. of course if going out is what satisfies you go for it but there are so many ways other ways to destress, have fun, and make meaningful connections which will all last longer than being under the influence for a few hours. you don’t need anything besides yourself to have positive social interactions and make friends.
question of the month
what is a core memory you have? could be anything~
shoutout of the month: Helen
shoutout to helen for demonstrating self control and not watching my tik tok until i gave permission. you continue to raise the bar. also thank you for the duke mom(my) shirt.
thank you everyone for reading this month's newsletter. this semester is going by so fast for me but im also highkey looking forward to thanksgiving/winter break. i hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
